The sea
“I spent uncounted hours sitting at the bow looking at the water and the sky,
studying each wave, different from the last, seeing how it caught
the light,
the air,
the wind;
watching patterns,
the sweep of it all,
and letting it take me.”
― Gary Paulsen,
Caught by the Sea: My Life on Boats

“In still moments
by the sea life
seems large-drawn and simple.
It is there we can see
into ourselves.”
― Rolf Edberg

“We need the tonic of wildness…
At the same time that
we are earnest to explore
and learn all things we require
that all things
be mysterious
and unexplorable,
that land
and sea
be indefinitely wild,
unsurveyed and unfathomed by us
because unfathomable.
We can never have enough of mother nature.”
― Henry David Thoreau,
Walden: Or, Life in the Woods

“My soul is full of longing
for the secret of the sea,
and the heart of the great ocean
sends a thrilling pulse through me.”
― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Photographers must learn to make the picture talk.

The color wheel is constructed to help you see the relationships between different hues. The bases are three primary colors: red, blue and yellow. These are then combined to make the three secondary colors: orange, green, and purple. Finally, the remaining six colors on the wheel are known as tertiary colors and are mixes of the secondary colors, including such hues as red-orange and blue-green. Familiarizing yourself with the color wheel can help you understand how to best mix and match a cool color with a warm one, for a naturally balanced scene.

When I edit this piece I will share what a black background creates on the audience and what a white or lighter color background affects.

“Life is light. You can make light do anything you want to. Photography means ‘light writing’. A culture is only as great as its dreams, and its dreams are dreamed by artists.”~L.Ron Hubbard.

The work of Francis Bacon was cited. He is generally credited as the first to develop the concept of codification, i.e., that any subject may be systematically arranged according to its rules. And it was in that tradition he then proceeded to address art as a whole. When I first read this quote while on my Art Course, I went out and bought my first Nikon and Sony; then photographed & filmed life. This is Art from Amazon which codifies all art. I have used this book on all forms of art, photography, music, graphics and filmmaking and attest it to be the best. Honest!!!

I see creativity as the most powerful thing we own by using our imaginations to help on future realities. James Cameron gives good examples on helping to motivate ideas for the broad audiences world-wide. He is the director of Avatar, Titanic, Terminator, The Abyss and many other blockbusters. While his outsize films push the bounds of technology, they’re always anchored in human stories with heart and soul.

“He really does want us to risk our lives and limbs for the shot, but he doesn’t mind risking his own.” ~Sigourney Weaver

2. device for making pictures: a device that converts images into electrical signals for television transmission, video recording, or digital storage. Derivation: [Early 18th century. Via Latin, "vault, chamber" < Greek kamara]

Plan, Scheme, Plot with Vogue Photographer Tim Walker who has photographed with Vogue for over a decade. He used to be the assistant to Richard Avedon.

‘Sometimes when you’ve taken a photograph you are totally thrilled with, you feel like you are on the brink of discovering something totally amazing like one of life’s secrets. You are dancing on the electricity of passionate creativity.’

Naturally, it spoke to me, just like it will to anyone who’s ever created, be it a poem, a story, a painting or a song. We’ve all danced on that inertia electricity. Isn’t that the reason why we continue doing what we’re doing? It made me appreciate that colourful, fairytale-like world of Tim Walker and his most brilliant imaginative work.

Gregory Colbert ~ creator ‘ashes and snow’

“What if there was a place that expressed our awe for nature. I’m usually just spending a lot of time with them, interacting, reassuring. I find this very important, to be able to take the time to create something in today’s fast-paced world. This is a key element in the ten year making of ashes and snow”

Starting with Monsanto & Dupont, these chemical & processed food corporations have contributed 32.5 million dollars to the No on 37 campaign.

The Yes on 37 top donors are Dr. Mercola, Organic Consumers Fund, Nature’s Path Foods, Dr. Bronner’s Soaps and the Lundberg Family Farms.

Along with the thousands of individuals who have donated small amounts, the Yes on 37 campaign has raised a little more than 1/10th of that amount: 3.9 million. It is definitely a David against Goliath struggle. The problem is, the opposition knows that lying and deception works. After all, they did it for decades, whether it was covering up the harm to human health of cigarettes, Agent Orange or DDT.

In the past year alone 19 states have attempted to pass GMO labeling laws, but each time Monsanto and biotech lobbyists have threatened to sue [and the state legislators backed down. Note added by me.] In Washington DC, both Republicans and Democrats have voted against labeling genetically engineered foods in equal numbers; and the Obama administration has refused to act, despite a campaign promise the President made while on the campaign trail in 2007.

On November 6th, California could be the first state in the country to allow labeling of genetically engineered foods,

Even as the U.S. government continues to rubberstamp the approval of new GMO crops, countries around the world are banning or halting the import of GMO seeds into their country, including most recently, France, India, Egypt and China, as they are waking to the realities of this untested and unsafe technology.

In California, all we’re asking for is a simple label to appear on a package to inform consumers if their food contains GMO ingredients — a right that citizens in 50 countries already have.”

http://FoodDemocracyNow.org/

In this world of many artists we are uplifted and inspired by those leading the way for workable changes in bringing about a new civilization.

“As soon as we allow ourselves to think of the world as alive, we recognize that a part of us knew this all along” ~Rupert Sheldrake

“When you can be your own best audience and when your applause is the best applause you know of, you’re in good shape. And when you can play a real good role—when you can go down here and be the mule or be the general with equal verve, in the total spirit of play, and do it with terrific sincerity—you’re living!” “Do not allow yourself to become upset by people or things…they are powerless. Your reaction is their only power!!”

“If you give up your own integrity and only gain for yourself, you may as well be dead. Those you’ve crossed will never feel the same, and others will smell it on you and act accordingly. I have subscribed to this my entire life, and have always tried to give far more than I take, and find a way to give back either now or over time, or later. Repay your obligations and then some. You will feel whole again. My advice, take it or leave it, at your peril.” This is a silly picture but I like it for unknown reasons. SPLURGE ON CREATING — L. Ron Hubbard “Look, an artist has an ability to change a culture. That is a humongous ability and with it comes humongous responsibility. So to that degree, they’re pretty big beings.”

“Trust others, but still keep your eyes open.”

~~for the Nobel Peace Prize,

~~his holiness the Dalai Lama said,

“Because we all share this small planet Earth, we have to learn to live

in harmony and peace with each other and with nature.

That is not just a dream, but a necessity.”

“In my garden there is a large place for sentiment. My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful.”~Abram Urban

“Creation of an idea is a valuable commodity not to be disvalued by this bill below. Doing so will not only discourage artists from creating, but will surely result in a world where creativity dies.”

One by one the guests arrive
The guests are coming through
The open-hearted many
The broken-hearted few

And those who weep begin
Welcome, welcome, cries a voice
Let all my guests come in

Blogging is something that you can do that doesn’t cost you anything, and it drives traffic. It can drive traffic to a standalone blog or a blog that is part of your main web site.

How does it drive traffic?

There is a network of blog search engines, and every time you post something on your blog, you have to notify these search engines and your new content will be included in those search engines. And people search and find your content and come to your blog.

WordPress blogs are set up by default to send a notification to all the blog search engines every time you post something new. For Typepad, Blogspot, Posterous or other blogs, you can send a notification (called a “ping”) to these search engines for free at www.pingomatic.com.

If you have a standalone blog, meaning one that is not part of your main site but is on a separate web address, then you have to put things in the sidebars that will get them to come back to your main web site. See one of my blogs to see how I do this:
http://www.realwebmarketingblog.com/

Notice that I have ads in the sidebars promoting my book and a free eBook, as well as links to my other sites and my various services.

I track traffic to my main web site at www.realwebmarketing.net using Google Analytics, and my blogs are the biggest single traffic source to that web site over the last two years (even bigger than Google).

Setting Up a Blog

There are several ways to set up a blog:

WordPress: You can set up a hosting account and have WordPress installed on it. You can also set up a sub-folder under an existing web site and install WordPress in just that folder, so that the address of the blog would be www.yourmainwebsite.com/blog.

Typepad: You can set up an account with Typepad who will then host your blog, so you don’t need a separate hosting account. You can use a custom web address that you register.

Free Blogs: There are several free blogs, including WordPress.com, Blogger.com, Posterous.com, and Blog.com. Note that WordPress.com is a free blogging system and is different from having a hosting account and installing WordPress there. I know, it’s pretty confusing. We used to use LiveJournal.com but the site has been broken for some time, and we used to use Tumblr.com, but they got all high and mighty on us and closed down our accounts because we (gasp!) wrote blog posts with links to other sites. Recently WordPress.com has also started closing down accounts if you write blog posts with links in them to other web sites.

Linking in Your Blog Posts

One of the advantages of blogging is that you can put links inside your blog posts, to pages on your main site. And getting lots of links coming back to your main site helps its search engine rankings.

Putting links into your blog posts is very smart to do and over time will add a fair number of new links to your site. I would put a max of 3 links into each blog post.

As mentioned some of the free blogs are objecting to links from your blog to commercial web sites, which I think is idiotic and symptomatic of the general “anti marketing” bias within the IT community. So my advice is not to use WordPress.com or Tumblr.com any more.

What to Write About

The next question is what to write about and how often. You should write something new and post it to your blog at least once a month, or more ideally, once a week.

You can write an article for your blog of anywhere between 300 and 1500 words. I’ve heard people say that you should not write anything over 700 words for a blog post but I can’t see any reason for that. Pick some topic related to your industry that has helpful information in it, i.e. it is not just a pitch for people to buy something.

In addition to writing an article, you can also write a short comment about some other content on the web, with a link to that content. You can also post a video from YouTube so that it displays right in the blog. So you can see that you do not have to write a full blown article to be able to post something.

It’s a good idea to include some high traffic keywords in your blog posts, because once that post gets included in the blog search engines, more people will find it due to searching for those keywords.

Good luck with blogging.

re-blogged from John Eberhard at realmarketing linked above

I highly recommend using his services and have met him in person.

I’ve been busy being admin on several blogs and websites and discovered from him, that I haven’t been blogging enough. : )

I can’t say enough about this book. It changed my entire career. When this came in my email I had to share it before this book is taken off the market. It is in all of the libraries around the world but this is the way to have it. It codifies all art on the planet in any form.

A painter lifts the brush… A musician raises an instrument… A writer sets the scene… A dancer makes a leap… An actor takes the stage… Each is striving to communicate successfully through their own particular art form. When are they creating art? And when are they not? And who is to decide anyway? The field of art teems with critics, columnists and experts. So why hasn’t anyone been able to answer this one simple question: What is art?

Art is all around us.

Your ability and knowledge of the subject is more important than most people are willing to admit.

The fact is, whether you are a professional in the arts or just someone who wants to improve the way you communicate, ART has something to do with you.

Think about it for a moment. Everyday things like organizing your living room, submitting a presentation to your boss or deciding on what to wear — involve the very basics of art and communication.

Living itself is an art form; creating your home, your job & workplace, the perfect family… These are things we work on to improve every day.

Individual ability is one factor, however, without knowing what direction to steer your ability in and how to fill in the “missing pieces” that make your works of art really stand out from the rest, you will never have a complete artistic product.

In fact, there are a million “mechanics” and “technicalities” that make up the subject of any art form, but without the BASIC fundamentals of art as a subject itself, the product is something that does not effectively communicate to the intended audience. Or worst case, its is completely rejected and criticized.

So, no matter where you are in or out of the field of the arts, this is the book for you.

WHAT IS THE ART BOOK?

Read this book and find out:

What the fundamentals of art really are

What art has to do with communication and why

What defines a true professional in his field of art, versus a mere “dabbler” or dilettante

What is “message” and how does one get his message across?

How to convey depth in art and use color — including color harmony, color depth and color associations… And what this all means to your success…

What “mood lines” are and how to use them effectively in composition and design of all types. Including the most seemingly mundane tasks

Results from application:

“I’ll be honest. I was a failed artist. And I made sure everybody knew it, too. Years of lamenting over the fact I couldn’t produce as an artist. I had given up on art and just about everything else in life as well. Then I read through Art by L. Ron Hubbard. While reading, I had incredible realizations about the subject and by the end I felt completely revitalized. So, I made up my mind to just start producing art and applying what’s in the book. Without meaning to impress anyone, people started noticing my work and commenting favorably. I was ‘in communication’ and a failed purpose of a lifetime was gone forever. I get teary-eyed every time I recall the story but it was the turning point in my artistic career.” — G.M.

“I have been an architect for fourteen years, and studied the subject for six years before that, and this book totally changed my viewpoint on so many things. The Artbook now lives on my desk. It is bent, bruised and battered through use. But I wouldn’t operate without it. As the author says: ‘The greatest joy there is in life is creating. Splurge on it.’ Well that is how I’m going to operate from here on out. I have no reservations in recommending this book to anyone involved in the arts — fine, mechanical, industrial, etc. It’s a vital discourse on so many key subjects.” — S.A.

HISTORY

“For some fifteen years I have been studying, amongst other branches of philosophy, the subject of ART… I have made a breakthrough at last in this matter.” – L. Ron Hubbard, 1965

And thus began a series of articles on the subject of art. Written between August 1965 and March 1984 and called the “Art Series”, these 17 articles became the basis for the highly popularHubbard Basic Art Course.

These articles were compiled and published in book form according to the author’s wishes in 1991.

Having been published in 1991, this edition of ART is the award-winning,first edition, first printing.

We have limited numbers in stock soact now to grab your copy before they’re gone forever!

Relaxation music is one of the most amazing ways to really influence my concentration and mood.

Before reading this post, I recommend you click here and listen to this music while reading…

I have found that Dan Gibson’s music, but also many other music styles with nature sounds, help relaxation and concentration by:

improving your breathing

relaxing tense muscles

improving your mood

helping your concentration

Of course, this is not all automatic. It takes time and patience. You need to dedicate sometime to the listening and learn how to improve your breathing and how to ‘follow the music’. Most of all, you need to learn to listen! Sounds obvious, but it is not! You also shouldn’t listen to it too loudly or too softly, as in the first case the music can be irritating and in the second case it is useless. Finally, I have also found that if I listen to it too often, it loses its effect on me. So I try to use it sparingly and not for too long, just like taking a short holiday during my busy daily life!

These are cd covers of Dan Gibson’s music. He left us with an amazing amount of music and you can find it on this label Solitudes Some of his songs are on youTube. These relaxation sounds inspire me to meditate with our Gaia Minute group. Join us: http://gaiaminute.wordpress.com/

As someone that has made a lot of friends on the web via WordPress, facebook and back when I started…myspace and somewhat within 140 characters on Twitter, I see the difference between someone I would like to meet in skin life and others I'd just like to be a part of their contributions on the web.
